We are pleased to announce a number of changes to Saint Louis School’s curriculum and schedule effective as of the 2010-2011 school year. Input from parents, students, teachers, staff members and administrators recommended a number of ways to improve your sons’ learning. This letter will highlight the major changes that will affect students in grades 6-12 as of August 2010. In summary, students will have increased instructional time and opportunities necessary for college preparedness through:
· A simplified daily bell schedule system featuring a day-to-day rotating sequence of seven class periods of one hour each in addition to after-school tutorial and a common lunch period
· A minimum course load requirement of seven courses per student in all grade levels
· Increased number of high school elective courses and middle school exploratory courses
· For all freshmen, a required semester of Leadership Development as Saint Louis Men followed by a second semester in Lifelong Health and Wellness
· For all sophomores, a required semester in Culture & Arts paired with a second semester in Ethics & Civics.
We will hold orientation sessions for your sons by grade-level groups beginning next week. Counselors are currently in the process of pre-registering returning students based on teacher recommendation and individual academic plans.
This is an exciting time of growth and renewal for Saint Louis and we look forward to implementation of these improvements to help your sons attain success. Please feel free to call counselors or administrators if you have any questions. We thank you for your continued support and involvement in this journey.
