’s Math takes first place in the Hawaii State Math Bowl Championships on Saturday, May 1, 2010 in Maui. The statewide competition brought both public and private schools together to compete in the Math subject area. During the day long competition, teams must demonstrate both individual and team skills while solving complex math problems in a given time. They work to solve each question, individually and a team, with a hope for a perfect score.
After a year of competition, Saint Louis School’s Math team finally finished first when in counted toward the state championship. The Crusader Math Team brought back such pride in a championship that was last held back in 1983. Each young student dedicates countless hours to practice the speed and accuracy of math problems. “Cambodian Magic” is what their theme has been for two years, since Coach Samnang Sea took on the Math team. Coach Sea is a math teacher and passionately motivates and inspires his students to thrive through math. As a mathematician, he shares his love and passion in solving complex problems with theories and solutions.
A special thank you to Saint Louis School ‘ohana for their unlimited support and prayers as the school rallied together to clinch the first place trophy for the very special Math team that has been buzzing for several years now on the slope of Kaleapohaku. With pride and dignity, the five young students returned back to Oahu with the trophy, along with their Coach Sam Sea and Mr. Almodova.
Congratulations to Dong Kuk Huh (’12); Byung Hee Chun (’12); Patrick Ma (’11); Kyung Taek Lee (’10); Coach Sea; Mathew Lee (’11)!
