Goals: Students will have his knowledge of basic arithmetic concepts, whole numbers, fractions and decimals reinforced and will be prepared for moving into the algebra course by learning the symbols and language important to the course.

The student will make an extensive review of operations with whole numbers and decimals. The student is introduced to the associative, commutative, and distributive properties. The student will practice their skills at estimating. The student will also be introduced to the concept of variables and inequalities. |

Chapter 3 Number Theory and Developing Fractions |
The student will be introduced to the idea of prime factorization, greatest common factors, and least common multiples. The student will use this knowledge to develop fraction concepts. Students will enhance their understanding of fractions, equivalent fractions, and common denominators. |

Chapter 4 Operations With Fractions |
The student review and reinforce their skills with all four operations with fractions and mixed numbers. The student will make connections between the concepts learned in Chapter 3 – equivalent fractions, least common multiples and greatest common factor – and the procedures for working with least common denominators. |

Chapter 5 Integers |
The student will review integer concepts and operations and apply skills already learned in working with whole numbers. Students will also be introduced to graphing on a coordinate plane. |

Chapter 8 Ratios and Proportions |
The student will review the concepts of ratio and proportion and extend their knowledge into applications with triangles, scale drawings, and tangent, sine, and cosine ratios. Their prior practical skills in working with fractions, decimals, and measurement will be challenged in this chapter by the extensive use of basic math to solve problems. |

Chapter 9 Percents and Consumer Applications |
The student will review the basic concept of percent and develops skills for finding rate, base, and percentage. The students will continue to learn to apply the basic knowledge of writing equations and using formulas to derive real world work problems. |

Chapter 10 Geometry, Surface Area, and Volume |
The student will be introduced to the concepts of geometry and measurement. They will be reinforced the basic concepts of plane geometry, classifying polygons, finding the perimeter of a polygon, finding the circumference of a circle, and finding the area of certain polygons and of circles. |
