MATH 7B

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Math 7B is a course designed to help students to:

    1. Review the arithmetic operations to insure mastery.
    2. Develop skills and attitudes that will enable the student to interpret and utilize mathematics in real life situations.
    3. Acquire the habit of straight thinking in the solution of problems.
    4. Acquire accuracy and facility in fundamental processes through sufficient drill material.
    5. Prepare for the first course in Algebra

COURSE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: In Math 7B, the student will be able to:

    1. Compare and order whole numbers, fractions, integers and decimals
    2. Round whole numbers and decimals.
    3. Solve simple word problems.
    4. Solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division equations.
    5. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions, integers and decimals.
    6. Find the measure of angles.
    7. Classify geometric shapes according to their properties.
    8. Find the perimeter or circumference of a figure.
    9. Find the area of a rectangle, a square, a parallelogram, a triangle, a trapezoid, or a circle.
    10. Solve problems using patterns or formulas.
    11. Determine factors and greatest common factors.
    12. Write fractions as mixed numbers, and mixed numbers as fractions.
    13. Write rates, ratios and proportions.
    14. Solve proportions.
    15. Use information from scale drawings or maps.
    16. Solve problems involving proportions and comparing costs.
    17. Write fractions and decimals as percents; write percents as fractions and decimals.
    18. Find the percents of numbers, the percent one number is of another, and numbers when percentages are shown.
    19. Write and solve percent equations; determine simple interest.
    20. Determine percents of change, tax rates.
    21. Apply problems by organizing information into charts or graphs, using logic.
    22. Identify congruent and symmetrical figures; construct angles and bisectors.
    23. Classify space figures; find the surface area of a prism, a pyramid or a cylinder.
    24. Find the volume of a prism or a cylinder.
    25. Find the probability of an event.
    26. Find the range, mean, median, and mode of numbers.
    27. Interpret double bar graphs, double line graphs, and frequency tables.
