Team Rules

Rules

1. If you enter a tournament you must show up for that tournament, even in the case of sickness. If you are ill to the extent that you need to go to the hospital, then please go and produce a doctor's note the following Monday.

2. If you are very sick, please notify me as soon as possible. You are ultimately responsible for finding a replacement for the tournament.

3. If you enter a tournament, you must find a judge that will also be at that tournament.
The judge ratio is:
One (1) Judge for every three (3) Speech Entries
One (1) Judge for every two (2) Ted Turner Debate Entries
One (1) Judge for every two (2) Lincoln-Douglas Debate Entries

4. Practices are on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during Period 9 in Room 41. You should make a conscientious effort to come out to all the practices that you can.

5. The week before a tournament, we will be practicing on Thursdays as well.

6. If you are unprepared for a tournament, I will not enter you in it.

Penalties

1. For entering but not showing up for a tournament (for anything other than a death in the family or a sickness that causes you to go to the hospital) the penalty is:  $25.00 per entry, which must be paid in the week following the tournament and the student's immediate dismissal from the team.

2. For not finding a judge, you are threatening your ability to participate in a tournament. The host school will kick out entries of schools found not bringing their requisite quota of judges.

Neighbor Island Tournament Conditions

Going on the Neighbor Island Tournament (NIT) is a privilege given to the most active speech and debaters. If you want to attend the NIT, you must follow certain rules:

1. You must participate in a Minimum of Three (3) tournaments before February (and one must be a State Qualifying tournament) (i.e. Kamehameha Invitational, Kamehameha Debate Qualifier, or the Sacred Hearts Speech Qualifier)

2. Because there is a rule that only two teams can enter in any specific category, I will take the teams that have won the most rounds from previous tournaments and force other teams that wish to go to enter different categories.
