Through a talk story and ku‘i ‘ai (poi pounding) demonstration, A Meeting with Hāloa, kalo practitioners Kaipo‘i Kelling and Duffy Chang will share stories, experience, knowledge, and practices of Hāloa.
They have over 30 years of combined training and experience from starting, maintaining, and cultivating both wet and dryland taro patches, preparing tools and implements for pounding taro, and preparing pa‘i‘ai and poi.
Studying and working alongside kalo masters such as Kupuna Eddie Ka‘anā‘anā and Uncle Jerry Konanui, they will share what they have learned so the traditions of Hāloa will continue on for the next generations.
